Giorgione nostro ha postato un altro capitolo di TWOW. Non è nuovo, finora lo ha letto alle convention, ma mai pubblicato.

Inoltre aggiunge sullo stato di scrittura di TWOW:

Mi sembra abbastanza speranzoso? Cioè, per i suoi standard xD

Giorgione dice esplicitamente nel post che ha pubblicato questo capitolo solo perché contemporaneamente ha rilasciato anche un estratto dal nuovo 'Wild Cards', e sa che certi lettori di ASOIAF si sarebbero lamentati se non avessero avuto nulla. Quindi in sé per sé non indica necessariamente un rallentamento della produzione. Mi sembra più indicativo che abbia rilasciato proprio lo specifico POV

 

 

di Arianne, invece di un Barristan o un Tyrion. ;)

Giusto per essere ottimisti e ben predisposti a TWOW, ricordiamo quale fu il percorso che portò Martin a completare ADWD:

The implication here is that there's a possibility that he will get it done before the Japanese worldcon, or that missing it would have made some sort of appreciable difference to Dance's completion.

A September 30, 2008, release date was being floated around at this time. Amazon picked up on it, but note that this NAB entry is not about Amazon happening to have a release date in its system and taking preorders. This is Martin actually directing people to preorder ADwD in 2008 from one of his business partners.

June 22, 2009, is also the first time I could find him mentioning the Meereenese Knot on the Not-A-Blog, meaning the narrative about what happened with Dance diverges here. Most Martin supporters like to pretend every implication Martin made prior to this that Dance was just a few months from completion didn't happen and that only here in June 2009 had he begun seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel."

The impact here isn't obvious anymore, but Martin originally posted this with a picture of the A Dance with Dragons cover next to the post, leading a number of fans to believe the book had been completed (which can be deduced from the comments and in his ensuing blog entry). Ironically enough, Martin states "When I finish DANCE, you'll know it. I will write something like this: 'I have finished A DANCE WITH DRAGONS.' You won't need to parse any hints." Yet, when he actually finished the book he merely posted a picture of King Kong at the foot of the World Trade Center, then berated fans for being too stupid to get the message.

Continuo a non capire come una persona razionale che conosce se stessa e il suo lavoro, possa pensare di finire un libro in 3/4 mesi (il 30 giugno del 2006 parla di speranza di finire in Autunno), quando poi ci metterà altri 5 anni.

 

Questo ammazza anche quel poco ottimismo che veniva dal fatto che nell'Estate del 2015 era convinto di poter finire in 3/4 mesi (annientati i pensieri positivi tipo "se pensava di essere a 3/4 mesi dalla fine e ne sono passati 10...non può essere così lontano dalla conclusione!" )

 

Immagino anche la frustrazione degli editori.

Infatti è del tutto insensato ormai sperare di decifrare qualcosa dai suoi update. Le date di pubblicazione sono diventate impronosticabili e possiamo davvero esserne certi solo quando Marti facesse l'annuncio ufficiale di conclusione. Finchè riflette su previsioni, previsioni che possono essere anche vicine nel tempo, non bisogna dargli particolare peso. Il nostro è cronicamente incapace di dare una deadline che sia anche lontanamente credibile: nella sua testa potrebbe anche pensare di essere vicino alla fine, ma nella realtà magari gli mancano 400 pag. In altri casi forse è davvero vicino alla fine, ma poi decide di riscrivere una decina di capitoli o introdurre nuovi POV e i tempi si allungano.

Io però proprio a causa dei suoi errori passati, confido in Martin. Credo che adesso abbia imparato a non parlare se non ha delle mezze certezze. Non so.

Il punto è che secondo me lui in determinati frangenti è davvero convinto di farcela, è certo o quasi certo di raggiungere l'obbiettivo entro la tale data, ma poi non ce la fa. Un po' ha imparato infatti e gli annunci di possibile termine del libro si sono di molto diminuiti; l'unica possibilità che aveva lasciato, se non sbaglio, era quella di farcela prima della sesta stagione (obbiettivo ovviamente fallito).

 

La cosa preoccupante è che i ritardi precedenti, quelli evidenziati nel post sopra, erano ritardi per nulla influenzati dalla serie TV (che non era ancora in onda), mentre oggi per sua stessa ammissione ha molto più tempo da perdere a causa della serie, della maggiore popolarità, dei viaggi, delle sponsorizzazioni, etc... senza contare che è anche più vecchio (e più stanco) di prima.
